So, today is the second Tuesday of the month – the “free” day at the Desert Botanical Garden (that’s the set up right now, I suppose it could change….). I decided to go. It wasn’t a first visit – I had been there to see the Chihuly Exhibit and to walk through the gardens on several occasions. But you know what, it is hot outside in the summer and I didn’t want that extra added pressure of “getting my money’s worth” by staying longer than I should in the desert sun. Free day – perfect.
I spent most of my visit in the herb garden. The garden features a lovely low fountain along with some shade and a few comfortable chairs. And it is so quiet – there were other people, for sure, but there was a hush throughout the entire garden property that added to a profound sense of tranquility. A lovely way to spend a morning and an easy 40 minute drive from PebbleCreek.
I also wandered through the wildflower garden (full of butterflies) and followed the walking path that ambles up in a very non-threatening way to a wonderful view of the city.
After a few hours in the Botanical Gardens, it makes sense to cool off before heading home. Talking Stick Casino and Scottsdale Fashion Square are easily accessible and a fun way to round out the day.
By now, because they are so easy to get to from PebbleCreek, I have been to several of the better known museums. Both the Phoenix Art Museum and the Heard Museum have free entry at regular times. Of course, they will ask for a donation, but it is truly free-will.
When planning to move to a 55 Plus Community, evaluating the surrounding community is critical. For me, location comes first – most houses can feel like home if you are in place that you love! Phoenix is growing, active and full of things to do – the perfect place to launch this next life chapter!
